Story:
What is Interstellar about?
I personally find this question pretty hard to answer. Interstellar is about many things; it's about an apocalypse, space, saving the world, a father-daughter relationship, conflicts of interest, and the list is still very long.
After watching the movie for more than 10 times, I think that the best way to go into the movie is without knowing what it is about and not watching a trailer/teaser. It is a weird and odd thought, I agree, but I reckon that it is the only way to get the most out of the film.
What do I think about it?
I believe that Interstellar is the best movie ever.
First of all, Nolan not only directed the movie, but also co-wrote the screenplay with his younger brother Jonathan and spent 6 years writing and developing it. When a movie director writes his own screenplay, he feels free to modify it, and he sees the movie from a filmmaker and a screenwriter's perspective. In other words, he knows exactly what he is doing.
Second of all, during the making of Interstellar, not a single green screen was used. This is very common among Nolan movies because he likes giving the audience an accurate and precise experience. And when it comes to this movie, the spaceship was real, the Endurance was real , TARS the assistant robot was real ( none of these components were functioning obviously LOL). During the shooting, Nolan wanted to use as less CGI as possible, a very good example would be the pictures below.
Tessaract BTS.
Mann's planet BTS.
Matthew and Nolan.
Miller's planet BTS.
Model of the Endurance.
Wind storm BTS.
Third of all, I think that the story of Interstellar was so perfect and consistent that we felt like we were part of the movie. Most movies suck in the 3rd act, but not this one. Interstellar's ending was so good and made the audience in movie theaters very emotional. It was unpredictable too! I shouldn't say more to not spoil it for you guys!
Another point is ,one of the most important components in the movie: the theme music. Hans Zimmer, a famous German composer made the theme music for Interstellar which I believe that it is the best ever. It brings the movie to life and gives us a marvelous and surreal experience. I always listen to it no matter how my mood is, and I suggest that you do the same thing!
The cast's performance was very good, especially Matthew's seeing that he is one of the best Hollywood actors.
Last but not least, the scientific accuracy in this movie is phenomenal. Kip Thorne, an executive producer of Interstellar and a scientific consultant stated that he "worked on the equations that would enable tracing of light rays as they traveled through a wormhole or around a black hole—so what you see is based on Einstein's general relativity equations.
For a perfect and accurate representation of wormholes and black holes, Thorne collaborated with Franklin and a team of 30 people at Double Negative, providing pages of deeply sourced theoretical equations to the engineers, who then wrote new CGI rendering software based on these equations to create accurate simulations of the gravitational lensing caused by these phenomena. Some individual frames took up to 100 hours to render, totaling 800 terabytes of data. The resulting visual effects provided Thorne with new insight into the gravitational lensing and accretion disks surrounding black holes, resulting in the publication of three scientific papers!
Movie quotes:
“Do not go gentle into that good night; Old age should burn and rave at close of day. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” —Dylan Thomas, as quoted by Professor Brand.
“It’s not possible.”—Case.
“No, it’s necessary.” —Cooper.
“Love is the one thing that transcends time and space.” Brand.
“So how do you plan on saving the world?”—Cooper.
“We’re not meant to save the world, we’re meant to leave it.”—Brand.
“Murphy’s Law doesn’t meant that something bad will happen. It means that whatever can happen, will happen.”—Cooper.
“We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars, now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt.”—Cooper.
To conclude, I believe that I have said everything that I can think of, I highly recommend watching this movie if you haven't seen it yet. And for those of you who watched it, please feel free to tell me your thoughts about it. Take care!
-Z.
