The Dark Tower: An Underrated Movie.
THIS BLOG DOES NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS.
Being a movie enthusiast, I feel like I have watched all movies. If you're like me, I bet you never heard of this film. The film is called The Dark Tower.
General information:
The Dark Tower is a film by Nikolaj Arcel who's known for his novel adaptations such as The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo. The Dark Tower itself is an adaptation of the novel of Stephen King's novel series of the same name. It stars Idris Elba and Matthew McCognaughey. The Dark Tower hit theaters back in the 4th of August 2017. The budget for this film was 66 million USD and it made a total of 113.2 million USD.
Genre:
The Dark Tower is known as a science fantasy Western Action film, and I think that's a perfect classification.
Awards:
Unfortunately, The Dark Tower didn't actually receive any awards, but here is a nomination that I found quite funny:
Nominated for the Biggest Dissapointment Of The Year award at the Golden Schmoes Awards.
Story:
What is The Dark Tower about?
The Dark Tower is about Roland Deschain a gunslinger on a life mission to protect The Dark Tower -a mystical tower which holds all worlds and realities together- while his arch nemesis Walter Padick a.k.a The Man in Black tries to kidnap Tom Taylor, a boy with special abilities, and use his powers to destroy The Dark Tower.
What do I think about it?
I believe that The Dark Tower is a very underrated film.
For starters, the adaption is actually really good (something you don't see very often). Nikolaj Arcel understood exactly Stephen King's visualisation for his story. Morover, I believe that casting Idris Elba is a very good decision, which shows the director's cleverness.
Second of all, this movie underlines Matthew McCoughnahey playing a villain which is somehow very satisfying to watch since he portraits every aspect of villains.
Third of all, the plot is very game changing and gives off a very odd feeling to the audience which underlines the talent of Arcel.
The complex production of the film:
I believe one of the main reasons The Dark Tower is underrated is its complex and different production.
The production of the movie began 10 years before its release. The effort to adapt the novel started in 2007 with periodic reports and official announcements. The project then was passed to a different production company. Development started with different filmmaking studios at numerous times and production studios such as Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros and Lionsgate Entertainment.
Behind the scenes pictures:
The movie trailer:
“- Jake: It's a hotdog.
- Roland: Savages. What breed?”
- Roland: Savages. What breed?”
“You can't stop what's coming. Death always wins.”
To conclude, I hope this blog was entertaining for you all, this one was a bit short because there isn't much to be said about it. But get ready for more upcoming blogs!
