R.I.P.D: Most Hated Film in 2013.
THIS BLOG DOES NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS.
Cinema is art, and art is subjective - therefore cinema is subjective right? Well please don't hate me on what I'm about to say. Action/Comedy films are overrated. There it is, I said it. HOWEVER, the film R.I.P.D that falls into the said genre is VERY GOOD.
General information:
R.I.P.D or Rest In Peace Department is a film by Robert Schwentke who is known for directing the novel based Divergent films. R.I.P.D is based on a comic by Peter Lenkov. It stars Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds. R.I.P.D was released in theaters on July 19, 2013. The good news is that it is available to watch on Netlfix. The budget for the film was 130 million USD, sadly it ended up making only 78 million USD, making it a "critican and commercial failure".
Genre:
R.I.P.D is a sci-fi action comedy film - and that couldn't be more accurate.
Awards:
According to IMDB, R.I.P.D did not receive any awards.
Story:
You're probably wondering (or you're not), what is R.I.P.D about?
Well, I'm here to feed your curiosity. R.I.P.D is about two dead police officers, working in the Rest In Peace Department. This department's main mission is to fight "Deados"; dead people who still roam on Earth like nothing has happened to them.
After officer Nick has died and joined R.I.P.D, he goes on a mission with his new partner Roy to fight Nick's ex partner Hayes who had killed him, to stop him from spreading the Deados on Earth, causing an inevitable apocalypse.
I'm not going to say anything else about the film so that you can fully enjoy it.
What do I think about it?
R.I.P.D doesn't deserve the hate that it gets. I mean sure it's not a Scorcese level film, however it is really entertaining. Isn't that the main idea behind films?
R.I.P.D was release in 2013, one of the greatest years of cinema. The Wolf Of Wall Street, The Purge, Dallas Buyers Club, Captain Phillips , The Great Gatsby, About Time - these are all 2013 releases, and the list goes on and on. I think we can all agree that R.I.P.D had some INTENSE competition, don't you think?
Not only are the plot and idea rare, but Ryan Reynolds' performance is incredible. Sure it's not as good as Deadpool, but who cares, am I right?
The special effects however are not that great. The producers of the film had worked with Image Engine for VFX, but they didn't do a good job. This highlights the cruciality of practical effects (thank you Mr. Nolan).

The movie trailer:
Quotes from the film:
Roy Pulsipher: One of them coyotes, he made love to my skull. You know what that practice is commonly called?
Nick: I do... and I certainly hope he got both eyes, Roy.
Nick: When exactly was your day?
Roy Pulsipher: 1800s, buddy. I'm what we used to call a lawman. Marshal Roysephus Pulsiper.
Nick: Roysephus?
Roy Pulsipher: It was considered a very sexy name at the time.
Nick: It sounds like an STD.
Now, if you decide to watch this film, you will not regret it. Even if it doesn't have any mind blowing plot of something, it will make you laugh , a lot. And please let me know what do you think about it.
Until later, thank you for reading this article.
Remember to live your life like a movie (spoiler alert: you're the protagonist).
